On Spring Hill Drive near the intersection with the Suncoast Parkway, an elderly Hernando County resident was crossing the street when a motorcycle ran the redlight and struck her causing her death. The motorcyclist from Spring Hill was speeding and violated the traffic control device causing the crash and death of the Hernando County woman.  The Spring Hill man also suffered serious injury and was bayflighted to a St. Petersburg hospital. The crash took place near the new Target shopping center at around mid morning on Friday. The Hernando County pedestrian's name has not yet been released.

Motorcycle accidents often cause horrible injuries and even death as in this case but it seldom involves a pedestrian versus motorcycle collision. The law enforcement investigation is ongoing but Hernando County officials believe the motorcyclist may have been traveling at a high rate of speed and was unable to operate his motorcycle in a safe manner in order to avoid the collision.
