Lowman Law Firm is proud to sponsor the 2021 Citrus Empty Bowls, a benefit hosted by the Community Food Bank (CFB) to help end hunger in Citrus and Hernando Counties.

This year, the benefit takes place April 11-17, and it’s easy to show your support — simply dine-in or place a to-go order at select restaurants during the week and a portion of the proceeds will be donated directly to the CFB to help those in need.

Hunger in Citrus and Hernando Counties

Hunger is a global problem. Every night across the world, nearly 9% of the world’s population — roughly 700 million people — go to bed on an empty stomach. But hunger is also a local problem in Florida’s Citrus and Hernando counties. The CFB reports that approximately 50% of households in Citrus County struggle to pay for basic needs, almost 5% above the state average.

The mission of the CFB is to acquire and distribute nutritious, quality food to pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout the area. The CFB helps feed more than 60,000 neighbors in need each month and has distributed over 14 million pounds of food since 2013. That’s more than 21 million meals!

“I can’t tell you how the events of this year have just changed everything in our lives,” says CFB of Citrus County Board Member Johnny Cash in a 2020 video, referring to the COVID-19 crisis. “As a result, the food bank has been asked to step up in even bigger ways as people who would never have been in a food line suddenly find themselves in need of assistance.”

According to Cash, if you’ve donated to the bank over the past year, you’ve helped the CFB of Citrus County make a huge impact:

  • 4 million pounds of food distributed
  • 3 meals or more per week provided to every person in need
  • 60,000 local residents kept from going hungry

At Lowman Law Firm, we say let’s keep the momentum going! We don’t believe that anyone should ever have to go to bed hungry or make a choice between medications/essentials and food. As your hometown team fighting for our community in Citrus and Hernando counties, we’re proud to support the 2021 Citrus Empty Bowls and hope you will, too!
