While everyone lined the block waiting for their turkeys, Christmas carolers gathered on the balcony of the Lowman Law office and sang cheerful Christmas tunes, and coffee and donuts were also handed out to those who were waiting in line. For this morning on 31 South Main St, the holiday spirit was in full swing. To one lucky soul an extra special present was given, as the winner of a raffle they won a stocking stuffer of gift cards to help them get their family through the holiday season.
At 9 o’clock sharp the trucks started to arrive, and volunteers from the office began to unbox the turkeys and bag them for those who were in need. One by one each of the 200 turkeys were handed out to the people who had been patiently waiting since the start of the morning.
It was truly an act that brought out the spirit of the holidays in each and every person there, as volunteers gave of themselves to make the season a little bit more hopeful for everyone else. Each turkey was accompanied by a cheerful wish for a happy holiday, and received with a gracious thank-you. It was a time for everyone in the community to get together and be thankful for all they had, and to build a sense of togetherness and communal support. After all, the best part of the holiday season isn’t the receiving of gifts, but the way in which simple acts of kindness can bring people together and encourage them to do good deeds for the sake of their fellow man.
We hope that you have a happy New Year’s, and that you can join us next year for our next turkey giveaway next year.
