There is little doubt that prescription pain medication abuse has become a significant problem in our country.  People everywhere, good people, are becoming addicted to a pill in order to allow them to function in their every day lives.  For instance, suppose someone is involved in an auto accident, work injury, or some other traumatic event and seeks medical attention.  The person may have a herniated disc, back or neck injury, or simply a sprain or strain of a muscle.  The hospital prescribes medication to address the initial pain but the condition does not improve.  The person may undergo chiropractic care or other conservative therapies but without a resolution of pain.  Then they are referred to a surgeon who tells them that surgery is an option but the cost is thirty or forty thousand dollars. If the person can function and go to work to take care of their family by taking these pills each day...do they really have a choice?  The days turn into weeks into months and before long the person is an addict...dependent on that pill to function everyday.  Many of these pills come from "Pill Mills" which are becoming more and more prevalent

I am not saying that pain management does not serve a purpose, it does.  However, too many people can too easily become dependent.  Recently Gov. Charlie Christ signed a "pill mill bill" that toughens the regulations on pill clinics and the people that own them.  The new law requires registration with the state of Florida and mandates that the clinic be owned by a medical doctor.  Last week, in Brooksville, our County Commission asked the legal office to draft a proposed ordinance to again restrict these clinics.  Last month, 31 people were arrested in Hernando County in a drug sting operation.

At The Lowman Law Firm, we handle personal injury cases throughout Hernando, Pasco, Citrus, Hillsborough, Polk, Lake, and Sumter Counties.  We represent the injured on a contingency fee basis and we advance all costs of the claim.  Our clients pay nothing unless we win.  If you require our services or would like to schedule a FREE CONSULTATION, Call, Email, or Text us today to speak directly with a Brooksville personal injury attorney.
